"Sonntagsgespräch" (Conversation) with Albert Speer on HR Fernsehen
Architect and urban planner, Professor Albert Speer will be a guest on HR3’s Sonntagsgespräch from 10:45 to 11:15am. To quote HR “Albert Speer turns 75 years old on the 29th of July. He is admirably full of life and new ideas which not only keeps him on the move, whether in Cologne or Cairo, but also inspires others. Albert Speer & Partner GmbH are building cities in China, city quarters in Egypt, residential communities in Russia, houses and city districts around the globe.
Professor Speer is one of the most creative and advanced thinkers in urban planning worldwide. ‘How do we plan to live together in the future – in times of climate change, shortage of resources and population growth?’ Albert Speer's planning conveys a communal and sustainable way of life. Humanity and survival are a part of urban planning and on these pressing issues the office of AS&P answers many current questions. Speer is an ambassador for democracy and humaneness, his credo: get involved with people, listen to them and collaboratively develop things – he cannot do any different”.

Third Prize, Realization Competition for the National Horticulture Show Villingen-Schwenningen 2010 in cooperation with Volker Götte Landscape Archite
The objective of the compeition was to contribute to the sustainability to the city via a comprehensive planning approach. The essential element of the concept was the completion of the important urban greenbelt in Schwenningen. Part of fulfilling the sustainability goal „internal before external development“ meant reactivating the unused rail area. Furthermore, implementable ideas were required for the gardening clubs, institutions, and associations.

AS&P has worked in Saudi Arabia since 1978. In the 80s, the Diplomat’s Quarter, staff housing for the State Department in Riyadh, was built according to our plans. A comprehensive regional and city plan for Taif, the summer capital of Saudi Arabia, was developed by us over eight years. On the occasion of the Chancellor’s visit to Arabia, I would like to inform about AS&P’s activities in the region. In addition to projects in Qatar, Oman, and Dubai, several other projects were worked on in Saudi Arabia last year.

First Prize, Urban Planning Competition for Foshan Sansui in Cooperation with D. Grösel and D. Chen
Sanshui lies northwest of Hong Kong in the Province Guandong in the Pearl River Delta. The landscape is covered with water streams and shaped by hills and tropical vegetation. The main objective of the competition was to redefine the area that lies along the edge of the metropolitan agglomeration of the province’s capital Guanhzou (Kanton).
The concept was developed using the principles of sustainable development: settlement concentrations in a variety of densities and uses, strong integration of landscaping and green spaces, reduction of individualized traffic, retention of existing settlement areas, etc. Toward the south-bordering river, a large gesture was made to redefine Sanshui’s image as „head of the dragon.“
By winning this competition against eight international competitors, AS&P gained a foothold in South China, the economically fastest-growing region in the world. The next step of the project’s plan was just approved by the client. |

2nd prize for Science Oasis in Riyadh - international competition
AS&P proudly receives the second prize in the architectural design competition for the new science and technology center in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The competition was held by the ADA, the Arriyadh Development Authority. AS&P joined a team of various specialists and greatly enjoyed the successful cooperation and professional exchange with Atelier Verbizh (museology), WGF – Werkgemeinschaft Freiraum (landscape planning), Bollinger + Grohmann (structure planning) and Lemon Consult (building technology planning).
The Science Oasis offers a venue for a playful learning experience about science and encourages the visitor to become actively involved in the exhibition. The design follows unconventional paths, not only in its architecture but also in the concept of the exhibition while at the same time stimulating the fantasy of the visitor. The museum is complemented by an exhibition garden, a parking area with palms and the museum shop.

1st prize for the ministry of water and electricity in Riyadh - international competition
AS&P was awarded the first prize in the competition for the new Ministry of Water and Electricity in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The competition was held by the ADA, the Arriyadh Development Authority. Together with IMAR, AS&P developed a building ensemble consisting of two triangular buildings, which as a result of their positions respective to each other and the roof which spans both structures are perceived as a single square unit. The striking roof not only shades the open spaces between the two structures; it also accommodates solar energy equipment, which creates energy and serves the heat exchanger of the cooling unit.
The design fully satisfies both the formal as well as the thematic demands placed on it by the Ministry of Water and Electricity.

AS&P turns 40 and Prof. Albert Speer 70
On July 1st it is 40 years ago that our office AS&P was established. For this reason we have assembled a new office documentation, which grants a small insight into the various AS&P planning and building projects of the last few years. The endeavor to illustrate the interdisciplinary of our activities resulted in a vivid collection of interesting planning and building projects of most different size and magnitude.
The person Albert Speer substantially shaped the development of our office within those 40 years. We would like to use the opportunity to also refer to the 70. birthday, which Professor Albert Speer will celebrate on July 29th, 2004.
